Here is what some of our clients are saying about Human Potential Labs personal training services.
I am an elite amateur triathlete and local ultrarunner who has been racing competitively since 2002. I was previously a competitive gymnast for 16 years including a MAC Champion at Kent State in 2001. Training to be the best athlete I can be is part of my lifestyle. I learned proper strength training when I was at Kent State, but have never been able to fully incorporate it into my schedule since then. It is a struggle to do it at home and I never knew exactly what to do when I went to the gym. Sean was able to personalize my training to fit my intense triathlon schedule. I have been working with him since December of 2006 and have greatly improved my overall strength. The training that I do at HPL fits precisely with my swimming, biking, and running to make a complete package. It is also instrumental in injury prevention. I no longer have the aches and pains that used to go along with tough training because all of my muscles are now strong enough to handle it. I had my best racing season ever in 2007 winning overall honors at 4 out of 7 triathlons and setting new 50K and marathon Personal Records. My 50K time improved from 2006 by 1 hour 26 minutes and my marathon time was 13 minutes faster on the hottest day I have ever raced. Sean's facility makes it easy to get in, get the work done, and get out with little distractions. He has new exercises for me every workout to keep it interesting and fun. We work with my training to build strength and recover when necessary. Thanks for making me as strong as I can be! HPL has been instrumental in my ability to destroy all of my previous records at every single distance. The custom developed training plan executed at HPL combined with my running regimen tailored by VR Training has given me the fitness base to allow me to be in the best shape of my life. I look forward to improving upon these in future events as well. (Akron Marathon is next… hills and all… Akron is going down).” –Nick Villanti By the way Nick beat his PR Time by 2 Minutes in the 2007 Akron Road Runner Marathon. Way to go Nick |

Not only have I been a competitive cyclist for 8 years I've been an United States Cycling Federation Certified cycling coach for the past 3 years. I've implemented strength and resistance training in myself and athletes before, but having said that, it hasn't been as effective as it could have been. It was always based on conventional methodology. You've been able to incorporate the right amount of training at the time to balance cardio training and strength. You've also been able to use probably the largest variety of exercises I've ever seen to target the individual strength regions of the body, making a complete package. I've seen improvement after each workout. Thanks for the help and the motivation in and out of the gym. Whether your an athlete or someone who is trying to improve yourself HPL will be the place to help you reach your potential.

I am a mother of 3 and it is hard to keep up with my active children. It was time for me to strengthen my upper body and walk up and down stairs without being out of breath. I wasn't looking for a quick fix fitness program but one that I could live with everyday and last a life time. I visited HPL as a guest to see what it could do for me and was amazed to see men and women using rubberbands. When I sat down with Sean and talked about me and my goals, he made it possible for me to start changing my body right away. He would pace me everyweek and focus on different areas daily. I new that this was going to work. Now I love to go work out everyday because I can see and feel the results from Seans programs. I'm losing between 1-4 lbs a month and have gone down a size. My whole family thanks you Sean. Kristina Stiller MARY KAY COSMETICS

I am a runner and basketball player without a lot of prior weight or resistance training. Sean Wade's HPL has really given me more strength and endurance so I am able to compete at a higher level in these activities. Sean has been very flexible with my tight schedule so I can do my workout at HPL when I get out of work. In addition, I have found the resistance training to be a nice change of pace from my usual aerobic exercise. I highly recommend HPL's regimen and Sean's personalized training program. Dave Cutler I am an avid runner and marathoner: HPL has increased my strength and endurance and I have just run my best marathon time this past week at the Akron Road Runner Marathon. Sean has specific programs geared for long-distance runners and I really feel this has led to my improved performance. Robyn Cutler

I met Sean Wade right about the same time started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). It was at this time he introduced me to Resistance Band Training (R.B.T.). I use to spend a lot of time static stretching and lifting weights. After using the bands I totally change my workout style. In the past two and a half years I have trained using a combination R.B.T, body-weight exercises, band stretches, and of course lots of BJJ practice. During this time I have gotten in the best shape of my life. I am more flexible and explosive than I have been before. And of course Flexibility and Explosiveness are keys in submission fighting. As a submission fighter and Chiropractic student I high recommend resistance band training. I feel it can help people of all ages and athletic ability. Jeremy Good Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida-Student Gold medalist in BJJ at the 2006 Pan-American Championships |
I began working out with Sean at HPL in May of 2006 when I decided that I was ready to get back to serious training and knew that cross training was a key component to reaching my true potential as a competitive runner. At the time I was training for a double crossing of the Grand Canyon, which is also known as Rim to Rim to Rim. This 50 mile round trip run has elevation changes and temperature variations. Sean helped me build up the strength and endurance to get through this tough challenge. Since then I have competed in: Groundhog 50K - September 2006 - 9th overall Towpath Marathon - October 2006 - 7th overall Mount Masochist 50 Miler - November 2006 - 23rd out of 230 finishers Fall Classic Half Marathon - November 2006 - 4th overall Youngstown Half Marathon - March 2007 - 6th overall Bull Run 50 Miler - April 2007 - 29th out of 300 finishers Michigan Trail Marathon - April 2007 - 7th overall American Discovery Trail Marathon - September 2007 - 5th overall Groundhog 50K - September 2007 - 2nd overall Currently I am working with Sean to reach my goal of a 2:45 marathon at the Richmond Marathon in November. I look to Sean for expert advice and his attention to detail. There is no doubt that without his help I would have never taken the step to the next level. Vince Rucci

I've been a dedicated "gym rat" for about 20 years, combining cardio, weight machines and free weights. A year ago I hit a plateau with my progress and started feeling "burned out' with my training. It just wasn't fun anymore. Joining HPL was exactly what I needed to get excited to work out again. My very individualized program is different everyday. I am constantly challenged and several of my previous "weaknesses" have now become strengths. I actually like doing push-ups now! I've gained strength in every muscle group and I'm NEVER bored! Thanks Sean! Tina Lim-Fulton

After running the 2006 Akron Road Runner Marathon, I went to HPL for help with upper body strength and conditioning. I believe it was this lack of upper body strength that made it difficult to finish that year. After working with Sean I ran a strong 3:52 in the 2007 Akron Marathon and set a PR for this course which is a 7 minute improvement from last year. Thanks Sean for all of your help! When I decided to train for the national judo championships last year, I knew my body would have to be in top physical condition, not only to face the competition itself, but also the greatly increasing practice and tournament schedules I would be keeping. Although some of my sensei's were originally skeptical that I chose a non-judo conditioning coach, they were soon very impressed with Sean's results. I continue to be amazed at the effort he put into creating a training regimen personalized to the needs of my sport. He took time to talk with my instructors, studied judo conditioning books and dvds, and then used resistance bands not only to strengthen key muscle groups, but also to simulate judo techniques. I am most impressed with Sean's attention to my physical wellbeing, not just my performance. He monitors my reaction to various exercises, insists I eat properly, has eliminated a previously recurring injury, and I personally believe has prevented others. When I'm out on the mat, conditioning should be the last thing on my mind. It is...and Sean's made that possible. Melanie Hosey |
Human Potential Labs 1653 Merriman Rd, Suite L3 Akron,Oh 44313-9015 Attn: Sean Wade, Owner Mr. Wade, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how helpful you and your staff have been in training police mountain bike patrol officers. Since the implementation of the Resistance Band Training (RBT) into our program, the reduction of pulled muscles and aches has decreased. Stretching is a very important component in any physical activity but it seems we have over looked this important component. The RBT program has given the officers much needed stretching component before, during, and after their tour of duty. By showing the officers how easy and fun the RBT program can be they are actually reducing muscle fatigue and injuries. By showing officers how the different uses the RBT program, they have started using their bands in the gym and cruisers. I have been using your RBT program for the past four years and love it. I use the program before my tour of duty, as well as prior to any running or weight lifting. If I miss a day of stretching, I can really feel it.
I would like to thank you for your time and effort in making sure that Ohio’s police officers understand the need for stretching. Keep up the good work. Sgt. C. Cunningham Sgt. Chad Cunningham University of Akron Police Department Training/ Community Policing Unit |
I have been working with Sean for about 6 months. During that time I have beaten my previous personal records in half and full marathons. This year I have improved my overall time on any marathon course by 12 minutes. This year at the 2007 Akron Road Runner Marathon I bested my all time course record for the Akron Marathon by 23 minutes! Thanks Sean Greg Dykes - 2008 Boston Marathon Qualifier |
Working with Sean was my secret weapon preparing for the fitness nationals. I was searching for a way to increase my flexibility, strength, and anaerobic conditioning to prepare for NPC fitness competition. I used to spend 45 minutes twice a day on static stretching with little improvement. In a few months of working with Sean, and the bands, I saw HUGE improvements not only in my flexibility, but my conditioning. My energy level and recovery was just amazing. I was so conditioned. I used to hope I could get through my 2 minute routine. Six weeks before competition I was running though it SIX times FULL!!! My body also leaned up much quicker than in the past. I won the Ohio State Fitness Championships and then went one to win the 2004 NPC Fitness Nationals Tall class earning IFBB Professional Status. Shhh! This is my secret for competition preparation! I also use rubberband flexibility, conditioning, and strengthening with my clients as well for general wellness, elite athletes, and rehabilitation. Summer Montabone, CSCS IFBB Fitness Pro |

For women who hate weights, it
sounds too good to be true. A new study suggests you can get
stronger without bulking up, compromising your cardiac fitness,
taking extra time in the gym, or lifting a single dumbbell. William
Kraemer, an exercise physiologist at Ball State University in
Muncie, Indiana, gathered 35 women and asked some to do 40 minutes
of step aerobics three times a week. Others were asked to do 25
minutes of step and 15 minutes of resistance training using stretch
bands to simulate exercises usually done in a weight room-like
squats, rows, and curls. After 12 weeks, it was clear the
aerobics-resistance combo was working. Not surprisingly, only the
stretch-bands users showed significant gains in strength and
upper-body power, but they were just as fit-and had lost just as
much body fat-as the aerobics-only group. Kraemer thinks
misconceptions about strength training are keeping women from
fulfilling their fitness potential. "There's this fear of becoming
Ms. Olympia. But in reality, most women lose body fat while
enhancing their aerobic condition. "Want to give it a shot? You can
try the bands at your gym, but if you want the maximum benefit,
Kraemer recommends working out with the bigger, stronger bands used
in the study.

Don't have a partner, dumbbells
or even a gym? No worries. A six-foot-long rubber band - along with
this 15 minute program - can deliver super flexibility and
strength, simultaneously. And the increased flexibility will
optimize your muscle development when you start training with
weights.
...I've opted for a superb stretching device that experts say may
actually be better and safer than partner-assisted stretching: a
6½-foot rubber band.
Don't laugh. These modern stretch bands are a quantum leap over
old-school surgical tubing and provide a time-saving "active
stretch" that delivers both flexibility and strength. Used lightly
for 10 to 15 minutes, the bands provide a superb warm-up for weight
training or aerobic work. Used intensely, they offer a suprisingly
tough resistance workout.
Active stretching can be done with or without equipment such as
dumbbells and stretch bands, depending on your goals. By making
each stretch tougher, however, bands are on par with weight work
for spurring muscle growth.
"As a warm-up for light weight training ar aerobic activity, you
don't necessarily need bands during your active stretching, but
they're a great fill-in between weights and a good warm-up for
heavy lifting. You can get pretty doggone strong with bands."
